Oh My Gods, I Frakking Love This Show

So, I was aiming to have this review continue my Comic Con themed weekend (because what says Comic Con like Battlestar?), but there was a Top Chef marathon on, followed by a Top Chef Masters marathon and well, I found myself far too involved to do anything else. Seriously, I passed out at 4am in front of the TV and woke up at 10 to continue watching. My productivity astounds even me.

Anyways, if you’ve spoken to me in the past month or so, you’re probably aware that I recently devoured the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica. I was hesitant to watch it at first, because I was afraid that it would solidify my residence in nerd-dom… but then I realized that being raised on Next Gen and The Wars had already established than inevitability and I delved right in. And holy shit am I happy I did. This show is brilliant.

The Premise: Way back in the day, the humans created robots called the Cylons, invented to make their lives a little bit easier. However, technology got away from them and the Cylons evolved into conscious beings that eventually rebelled against their masters. This was the first “Cylon War”, which lasted about 12 years until an armistice was reached and the Cylons disappeared, not to be seen or heard from for 40 years. This is where the show begins. After their decades in hiding, the Cylons have returned with the intention of wiping out the human race entirely. Unbeknownst to the Twelve Colonies (aka where humans live), the Cylons now look, and feel, human. And through manipulation and seduction, they have worked their way into the security networks of the colonies, leading to an all out nuclear attack. Nice guys, eh?

The survivors of the attack are those aboard the Battlestar Galactica, an old war ship who was in the process of being decommissioned at the time of the attack (one of the launch bays had been converted into a gift shop…). Galactica, along with various other ships who managed to escape the attack now make up the only survivors of the human race. This fleet of roughly 50,000 people must fight off the constant Cylon attacks, while searching for a new place to call home, the mythical planet called “Earth”.

The short version can be summed up by the first season’s prologue:
“The Cylons were created by man. They rebelled. They evolved. They look, and feel, human. Some are programmed to think they are human. There are many copies. And they have a plan.”

Gripping, right?! I know it kind of sounds like a standard post-apocalyptic sci-fi show, but trust me friends, it’s not. Still not convinced? Well here are 5 reasons why everyone should watch Battlestar Galactica. Trust me, you’ll love it.
